The Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment Services (MHSATS) within the Direct Care and Treatment is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Primary Care Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to join our team at the Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center (AMRTC).

AMRTC is a 96-bed modern tertiary care teaching hospital, which provides hospital care to adults with mental illness and substance use disorders (often co-occurring), as well as other complex health conditions. AMRTC is the hub of a state psychiatric care network including 7 smaller hospitals and a wide range of community-based resources. Multidisciplinary teams provide care guided by evidence-based practices and a person-centered treatment philosophy.

In this position you will provide primary care which includes health histories, physical examinations, analyzing laboratory findings, diagnosing, and developing treatment plans. As the Primary Care APRN you will also provide direction and information to patient’s families, unit staff, department heads, support services, community agencies, and administration. Responsibilities include:

• Provide direct advanced practice nursing care for primary care issues

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acute or chronic health issues

• Conduct work in collaboration with physicians and other health care providers

• Prescribe medications and monitor and manage for side effects

• Serve on medical, nursing, and facility committees

• Provide health education to patients and clients

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from a program of study designed to prepare the individual for advanced practice as a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist in family practice or adult/gerontology or internal medicine

• Certification with a national professional nursing organization as a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist

• Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Minnesota

• Authorization from the Minnesota Board of Nursing to prescribe drugs and therapeutic devices

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working with inpatient psychiatric patients

• Previous APRN experience
