The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Materials Technology (Anne Arundel County) is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineering Technician III position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.

Nature of Work : The main purpose of this position is to assist the Area Materials Engineer and Materials Engineer to ensure that the proposed sources for materials used on state projects are acceptable to SHA. This also includes MDOT modes, and local municipalities. This position will review and evaluate material clearance documents for both ongoing and completed projects to ensure that all materials were inspected, tested, or certified in accordance with specifications. Also, the incumbent in this position will organize and prioritize material clearance estimates for data entry into Materials Management System Database. This position will organize and file material test results and other important project documents. They will also assist in the preparation of material certification letter for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) indicating that reasonable compliance to specifications was met.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of Quality Control (QC)/Quality Assurance (QA) Acceptance processes for materials issues relating to materials clearance

  • Possess excellent internal and external partnering experience

  • Knowledge of highway engineering and construction principles, materials management, and material testing standards, specifications and methods

    Notes:

  1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

  2. Applicants who possess an associate's degree in engineering, construction management or surveying or surveying technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the required experience.

Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
