Day to Day

As a Software Engineer IV at Indeed, you will function as the lead Technical Architect for IT by providing technical leadership on complex, cross-cutting platforms and systems that enable teams across the company to build high-impact products efficiently and responsibly. You’ll work on initiatives that operate at scale, shape technical direction across multiple teams, and influence how new technologies are adopted and applied. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional partners to design extensible solutions, guide architectural decisions, and improve developer and system capabilities across Indeed. You’ll stay current on emerging technologies and help translate new capabilities into practical, scalable solutions that deliver business and user value. This role is business critical because it ensures solutions are feasible, maintainable, scalable, and aligned with long-term enterprise strategy—directly influencing delivery speed, risk mitigation, and innovation adoption.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and evolution of shared platforms, frameworks, or services that support multiple teams or product areas.

  • Provide written and visual architectural guidance, integration patterns, and direct technical leadership for complex initiatives spanning teams or organizations.

  • Evaluate, experiment with, and guide the adoption of emerging technologies, especially Generative AI, to improve scalability, efficiency, and user productivity while balancing technical innovation with operational excellence, including cost, performance, security, and reliability considerations.

  • Mentor and influence engineers and application admins across disciplines, supporting technical excellence and long-term growth.

  • Partner closely with Product Managers and business partners to align technical strategy with business goals by providing insights on future enhancements, integrations, AI evolution, and technical debt.

  • Monitors adherence to architecture patterns, reference architectures, and capability alignment, including AI components.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Skills/Competencies

  • Requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree;

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a demonstrated record of leading large, cross-functional initiatives.

  • Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and APIs at scale and multi-agent functions.

  • Proficiency with data storage and access patterns, including designing, building, and direct experience with SQL and NoSQL systems and data analytics.

  • Experience with integrating MCP into AI workflows, building evaluation frameworks for AI systems such as RAG, DAG, multi-agent workflows, and prompt to prototyping concepts at scale.

  • Experience evaluating or working with emerging technologies, particularly Generative AI, and integrating them into production systems.
