Job Summary
The Managing Director provides strategic, operational, financial, and administrative leadership for theUniversity of Michigan Concussion Center (https://concussion.umich.edu/) (UMCC). Founded in 2018 under the Bioscience Initiative, UMCC is administratively housed in the School of Kinesiology with active members across different schools, colleges, and units on campus. Reporting to the Center Director and collaborating closely with theExecutive Committee (https://concussion.umich.edu/about-us/leadership/executive-committee/) , the Managing Director oversees the day-to-day management and long-term development of the Center's programs and initiatives.
Responsibilities*

Strategic Leadership & Program Development (30%) - EF
Partner with the Center Director and the Executive Committee to implement theCenter's strategic vision and priorities. (https://concussion.umich.edu/about-us/)
Identify and develop new initiatives that expand the Center's impact in research, clinical care, education, and community engagement.
Lead the development of major center initiatives, interdisciplinary collaborations, and cross-campus programs.
Facilitate collaboration among faculty, clinicians, and external partners to advance concussion-related research and innovation.
Partner with fundraising and development staff to support fundraising efforts and donor engagement.
Operation & Administration (30%) - EF
Oversee the daily operations of the Center, including staffing, budgeting, compliance, and administrative infrastructure.
Manage administrative and research staff and coordinate activities across the Center's cores.
Ensure compliance with university policies, research regulations, and financial procedures.
Support research funding contracts/applications, oversee research program logistics, supervise research staff members to facilitate study coordination, data management infrastructure, and regulatory compliance where applicable.
Track and report research outcomes, metrics, and impact.
Education & Outreach (20%) - EF
Oversee the development and dissemination of educational programs, community outreach initiatives, and public engagement efforts (e.g., Pop-up Safety Town).
Support the creation of educational materials and programming for diverse audiences, including clinicians, researchers, athletes, students, and community members.
Coordinate public events, workshops, and speaker series that advance the Center's mission.
Build and maintain partnerships with academic units, industry partners, foundations, and community organizations.
Coordinate advisory boards, executive committees, and external stakeholder engagement.
Communications (20%) - EF
Lead the marketing and communications efforts to promote the Center's research, programs, and impact (e.g., newsletters, annual reports, social media channels).
Prepare reports, strategic documents, and presentations for university leadership, advisory boards, and stakeholders.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
Master's degree or higher (or equivalent background/experience) in public health, health administration, research administration, neuroscience, kinesiology, or a related field.
Significant experience (>3yrs) in program management within an academic, clinical, or research environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary initiatives.
Strong organizational, written and verbal communication, and leadership skills.
Experience managing interdisciplinary teams.
Desired Qualifications*
Familiarity with academic research funding mechanisms and regulatory processes (IRB, clinical trials, grant writing, etc.).
Familiarity with UM systems.
Experience in partnership development, fundraising, or donor engagement.
Experience in marketing and communications efforts; working knowledge of using programs such as Canva, Constant Contact, and social media channels.

Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated competence in writing and editing documentation for diverse audiences
Skilled in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different stakeholders
Experience setting priorities and adapting successfully as priorities shift
Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive employee and business information with utmost confidentiality
Ability to work under pressure in a complex environment and maintain a calm and professional demeanor

Additional Information
The general annual full-time salary range for this position is $85,000 - $100,000, with flexibility based on the candidate's qualifications and experience. An offer may be extended outside of this range based on equity, experience, knowledge, and skills for the position. You are encouraged to discuss salary questions to honor understanding and transparency throughout the recruiting process. Benefits are included with this position.
This position is based in Ann Arbor, MI, and will have the option for either a fully on-site or a hybrid work schedule (up to 2 days remote/week with Wednesdays being a required in-office day). Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change depending on the business needs of the hiring unit, throughout the course of employment.
