Job Title: Design Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to contribute to the design and development of cutting-edge electronic systems. This role involves creating custom discrete circuits, working with industry-standard tools for circuit simulation and analysis, and collaborating with vendors for the fabrication of custom PCBs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering and be adept at designing compact packaging solutions for electronic assemblies.
Responsibilities
Conduct work to meet project targets and key performance indicators such as reports and project milestones.
Design and develop custom discrete circuits for proof-of-concept devices and demonstration units.
Create EDA-assisted schematic diagrams, PCB layouts, and discrete component specifications.
Perform circuit simulation and analysis using industry-standard tools.
Collaborate with vendors to fabricate custom PCBs and package chips into carriers with appropriate connections.
Design control circuits for laser systems and optical components.
Develop precision timing and synchronization circuits for laser pulse timing applications.
Validate design operation through lab bench work and assist with integration of custom circuit packages into devices.
Contribute to cross-disciplinary research teams, supporting prototypes, intellectual property, and publications.
Participate in and support workplace safety culture and activities.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in analog and digital circuit design and mixed-signal systems.
Experience with CAD tools such as Altium Designer or KiCad.
Knowledge of circuit simulation tools like SPICE or LTSpice.
Familiarity with programming languages such as C/C++ and Python.
Proficiency with test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Doctorate in Electrical Engineering or related field, or Masters in Electrical Engineering with equivalent experience.
background in RF/microwave circuit integration and simulation.
Knowledge of packaging integrated photonic chips.
Familiarity with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
Experience with rapid prototyping techniques like 3D printing and CNC machining.
Familiarity with the work style of research institutes.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Ann Arbor, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
