The Louisiana State Penitentiary is currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to serve as aCorrections Lieutenant Colonel, a key leadership role within the institution. This position is critical to maintaining effective prison operations within a secure correctional environment while ensuring strong employee relations, policy compliance, and workforce development. In this role, the incumbent will assist the Chief of Security in overseeing the unit management system of security.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
One year of experience in any field; OR
Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
One year of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Captain in State service.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current driver's license.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
As a Corrections Lieutenant Colonel, you will serve as a senior leader responsible for overseeing institutional operations, ensuring the safety and security of staff and offenders, and directing the implementation of policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives. In this role, you will:
Assist the Chief of Security in overseeing unit management operations, including the coordination and direction of security activities
Support the planning and implementation of security procedures and regulations to ensure the care, custody, and control of inmates
Supervise security staff and daily security functions, ensuring compliance with mandatory posts, departmental policies, and institutional directives
Address inmate concerns and complaints, taking appropriate corrective action or referring issues to the proper staff for resolution
Work Environment:
Adult male inmates of all custody levels – minimum, medium, maximum (death row) and protective custody.
Will supervise maximum-security inmates and lower level security officers.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probation, or Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)
Current permanent classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
