Rayburn Correctional Center is seeking a dedicated, highly motivated Corrections Major to join our leadership team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, security, and operational integrity of the facility. The ideal candidate is an experienced corrections professional with strong leadership skills, sound judgment, and the ability to guide staff while upholding the mission, values, and standards of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections. As a Corrections Major, you will oversee daily operations, support staff development, ensure policy compliance, and contribute to a secure and orderly environment for both staff and inmates.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
One year of experience in any field; OR
Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
Two years of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Job Duties and Other Information
Assures count procedure are followed and that all security rules and regulations are complied with by both inmates and free personnel.
Makes certain adequate supplies are on hand and will oversee issuance of clothing and medication.
Supervises and on occasion, participates in unscheduled shakedowns of supervised areas in order to detect and eliminate contraband.
Makes daily inspections of cellblocks, dormitories, yard areas, kitchen and dining area, gymnasium, etc. to insure compliance with prevailing security policies and practices.
Prepares and submits any reports required on his shift with regard to employee or inmate accidents, unusual occurrences, disciplinary reports, and rule infractions, etc.
This officer will supervise Shift Captains, Shift Lieutenants, Master Sergeants, Sergeants and Cadets.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: DETAIL OF A permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)
- An employee selected for detail may be permanently promoted to this position if a position becomes available.
Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $26.37 per hour.
There is ‘Premium Pay’ for this position: A rate between$.50 an hourand $1.00 an hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
