Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation
HOURS OF WORK: Schedule varies; Monday through Sunday 7:00 am-11:00 pm
LOCATION: 1600 Lidia Selkregg Lane
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties
Under supervision, provide leadership and functional supervision to recreation and volunteer participants: lead and organize daily program and facility activities and perform related work as required. Provide excellent customer service in-person, via phone and via email. Schedule and provide routine information concerning reservations of training and activities. Coordinate and maintain database for reservations of facility, training and activities. Will be assigned to one of the following facilities: Kincaid Outdoor Center, Lidia Selkregg Chalet and Golf Course, Centennial Campground. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and three (3) months experience leading, directing, supervising, coaching, or teaching children and/or adults at a recreation facility, a childcare facility, a childcare program, camps, educational institutions, therapeutic recreational programs, team, organized youth programs, or other similar programs.
All applicants must possess or obtain:
American Red Cross First Aid Certification and American Red Cross CPR or equivalent at time of hire.
Pediatric CPR/FA certification within 30 days of hire
Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) at time of hire.
Additional Important Information
Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160), (AS 12.62.400) and AMC 16.55.250. Applicants will be required to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 (State of Alaska fee) plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work. In some cases the processing fee may be reimbursed.
Current copy of the applicant's Pediatric and Adult First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifications within 30 days of hire. (Must be an instructor led class)
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of current American Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifications or the equivalent at the time of hire
All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference
Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
