Overview
The Facilities Maintenance Tech I performs a variety of general and routine maintenance and repairs of assigned equipment and facilities. This includes plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling and other building systems. Inspects and performs preventative maintenance repairs on facilities and electrical systems, HVAC, generators, fire and/or safety systems. Schedules maintenance or repairs to minimize disruptions to operations wherever possible. Performs work under general supervision and handles moderately complex issues and problems.
The Facilities Maintenance Tech I operates under close supervision of GSE Manager, and responsible for the cleaning and general facilities upkeep of designated areas.
Responsibilities
Plans repair work and performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Examples may include repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures.
Ensures that facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition
Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
Follows safe working practices and makes appropriate use of related equipment as required.
Maintain and troubleshoot all facility equipment.
Reports and address maintenance deficiencies and items in need of repair.
Performs deep cleaning tasks and special projects (for example: use power tools/equipment to clean facility) as needed.
Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair.
Performs tasks including, but not limited to, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, shampooing carpets, washing windows, cleaning/waxing floors, and removing and disposing of trash.
Must perform necessary work to maintain the optimum level of cleanliness for our employees and customers.
Ensures work is performed in a timely manner, and triages requests to prioritize the most critical repairs.
Maintains cleanliness of vehicle parking areas.
Performs basic office maintenance; hangs signs, pictures, shelving, change light bulbs etc.
Safely operate general office and facility cleaning equipment, buffers, shop vacs, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed by Manager.
Qualifications
Be at least 18 years of age
High School graduate or GED
Possess a valid driver’s license
Proven facilities maintenance experience preferred
Must be skilled in the use of hand and power tools
Must have experience performing routine maintenance
Strong organizational and communication skills
Successfully complete a background investigation, including FBI fingerprints, criminal history background check, and pre-employment drug test
Must be willing to work in inclement weather
Must be a U.S. citizen or show proof of right to work in the U.S.
Ability to always maintain a pleasant and professional demeanor.
Ability to lift 50 pounds comfortably
Able to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English
Required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules
Language Skills:
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Write routine reports and correspondence.
Speak effectively one-to-one and before groups of customers or employees of the organization
Math Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Physical Requirements:
The Facilities Maintenance Tech I on occasion may lift or move with help up to 50 pounds, and/or more frequently lift or move 50 to 70 pounds.
They may constantly lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Employees are regularly required to use hands, talk, hear, bend, stoop, kneel, and is frequently required to stand, walk.
Employees may be required to climb, sit, and balance.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can vary dramatically depending on location and time of day.
Occasionally high noise levels where hearing protection is required and provided.
