Fulmont Community Action Agency Inc Teacher Assistant in Amsterdam, New York

NY1612496 Teacher Assistant needed with Fulmont Early Childhood Services (Head Start) in Amsterdam, NY.

SUMMARY Responsible for assisting the Head Start Teacher in providing the children with appropriate learning experiences, while maintaining a clean, safe and social learning environment. Will fulfill Teacher responsibilities in the event of an extended Teacher absence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other duties may be assigned).

  • Follow all Fulmont, Head Start, and NYS Day Care Regulations, Policies and Procedures.

  • Follow guidance and direction from the classroom Teacher.

  • Assist the Teacher with lesson planning and carrying out daily routine/activities.

  • Submit attendance and volunteer sheets and classroom news as required to designated staff.

  • Promote daily life skills in each child by providing opportunities involving room cleanliness and personal hygiene, such as table setting/cleanup, sweeping floor, picking up after play time, brushing teeth, proper toilet habits/cleanliness, etc.

  • Ensure tables are set in a manner that promotes family style meal periods, as required by the performance standards.

  • Promote socialization, fine motor skills, self-help skills, and appropriate table manners during family style meal periods.

  • Interact with children through continuous educational opportunities involving all developmental areas: language, social/emotional, fine and gross motor, and cognitive. Create and promote a continuous, positive environment for children, families and staff.

  • Assume classroom responsibilities in the absence of the Teacher, and ensure events and information are communicated upon return of the Teacher.

  • Guide and direct Bus Monitor/Center Aides, Substitutes and Volunteers in the classroom.

  • Attend mandatory training and pursue education as it pertains to the position.

  • Assist children during arrival and dismissal periods.

  • Provide continuous supervision, monitoring and interaction with the children during indoor/outdoor activities, field trips, etc.

  • Enter data into ChildPlus Program regarding communication with families, observations, disclosures, incidents, etc.

  • Enter observations into GOLD, as deemed necessary by the Teacher or Management.

  • Meet expectations and standards of CLASS.

  • Communicate and discuss concerns and/or issues directly related to the children, families or classroom operations to the Teacher.

  • Adhere to all Agency safety policies as well as any State, Federal or other applicable safety regulations.

EDUCATION - A 2-year degree in childhood education or a valid CDA (Child Development Accreditation)

OTHER REQUIREMENTS Reliable transportation required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee must possess the physical ability to perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must have the physical ability to assist children by lifting or otherwise providing mobility assistance as necessary. Schedule: Monday - Friday; Full time (35 hours per week) with benefits (401(k),Dental insurance, Health insurance, Life insurance, Paid time off, Vision insurance).

Starting rate is $16.00 per hour.
