Position Summary

The Public Works Seasonal Maintenance Worker performs skilled and semi-skilled manual labor in

support of Public Works operations, including water system maintenance, groundskeeping,

infrastructure upkeep, and general field services. This position contributes to the safe, efficient, and

reliable maintenance of municipal facilities, landscapes, and water distribution assets while ensuring

compliance with departmental policies and safety standards.

Supervision

Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Water Meter Foreman.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Essential Functions

Duties will vary based on seasonal needs and departmental assignments. Responsibilities include, but

are not limited to:

Field & Grounds Maintenance Operations

? Perform landscape maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, pruning, and

vegetation control.

? Conduct litter, debris, and storm-related cleanup to maintain safe and attractive public spaces.

? Assist with general grounds and right-of-way maintenance.

? Identify and report hazardous conditions, infrastructure damage, or maintenance concerns.

Water System & Infrastructure Support

? Assist with cleaning and maintenance of storm drains, water valves, and related infrastructure.

? Support installation, inspection, repair, and replacement of water meters.

? Assist in maintaining automated irrigation systems, including troubleshooting minor

mechanical issues.

? Record maintenance activities and communicate findings to the Water/Water Meter Foreman.

Equipment & Tool Operation

? Safely operate hand tools and power equipment such as mowers, trimmers, shovels, picks,

compactors, and other light-duty machinery.

? Load, unload, and transport materials including gravel, soil, stone, and landscaping supplies.

? Perform basic preventive maintenance and minor repairs on groundskeeping and light

mechanical equipment.

? Operate motor vehicles and light-duty equipment in compliance with safety guidelines

(minimum age 17 with valid drivers license when required).

? Follow all Public Works Department policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

? Utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices at all times.

? Promote a culture of workplace safety for employees and the public.

? Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with coworkers and the

community.

Minimum Qualifications

? Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, construction labor, utilities, or

related field preferred.

? Valid drivers license required for equipment and vehicle operation (minimum age

requirement applies).

? Ability to successfully follow safety training and operational instruction.
