Aerotek Automation Technician in AMES, Iowa

Job Title: Automation Technician Job Description

As an Automation Technician, you will partner with Automation Professionals to troubleshoot and resolve automation issues. You will utilize your skills with PLC’s, Ethernet IP, DeviceNet, and other communication protocols to ensure efficient operation of equipment. Your role includes working with Wonderware and Factory Talk View Studio HMIs, as well as performing electrical calculations and installations.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot automation issues and partner with Automation Professionals.

  • Utilize PLC’s RSLogix 5000, 500, 5, RSlinx, RSNetworx, and RSLinx.

  • Apply knowledge of Ethernet IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, and Serial communication protocols.

  • Work with Wonderware and Factory Talk View Studio HMIs.

  • Use computer skills with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint).

  • Read and interpret IEC standard electrical drawings.

  • Install and commission low voltage (480VAC) AC & DC drives.

  • Manage temperature controllers & (PID) loops.

  • Perform electrical calculations and troubleshoot systems using electrical instruments.

  • Install, wire, and maintain various electrical components and systems.

  • Identify improvements and implement changes in PLC Logic and HMIs.

  • Lead efforts in Continuous Improvement and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

  • Execute safety work orders and support maintenance team on shift as needed.

  • Train maintenance technicians on PLC troubleshooting tools.

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on production and packaging equipment.

  • Troubleshoot maintenance issues throughout the plant.

  • Complete projects and work orders as assigned.

  • Collaborate with Processing and Packaging teams to ensure product flow.

  • Prioritize and assist with maintenance work and procedures.

  • Maintain effective communication and relationships within the plant.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing maintenance experience in mechanical & electrical fields.

  • Proficiency with PLCs, Wonderware In-Touch, Rockwell HMIs, Cognex Vision Systems, Ethernet IP & DeviceNet.

  • Experience with VFDs and Motion Controls Systems including servo motors.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and perform electrical calculations.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with electrical instruments and circuit knowledge.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • AA degree in maintenance or an equivalent trade school certificate preferred.

  • Boiler Certification is a plus.

  • Refrigeration Certification is a plus.

Work Environment

Work in a 24/7 facility with a rotating shift schedule, including night shifts. Training occurs on the day shift initially. The facility maintains a warm environment due to large dryers, and a dress code of jeans with no sweatpants or t-shirts is required. Steel-toed boots are necessary, and PPE such as hair nets are provided. The environment features high humidity levels and adherence to GMP standards, including a no-jewelry policy.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of AMES, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $30.00/hr.
