Nexstar Media Group Multimedia Journalist in Altoona, Pennsylvania

WTAJ-TV is looking for a driven and energetic Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to join our news team in Altoona, PA. WTAJ-TV is Your News Leader in Central Pennsylvania. We care about our community, and we want someone who understands that local journalism has the power to inform, impact, and inspire! In this position, you’ll cultivate sources, gather interviews and visuals that matter, and connect with our audience on-air, online, and on our streaming channel WTAJ+.

This is an excellent market to make you mark in broadcast and digital news. There’s plenty of news to tell here! And there’s plenty to do in Central PA, including outdoor activities, family entertainment, college sports, minor league baseball, and of course, Groundhog Day! We’re also a short road trip to major cities like Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia.

The Multimedia Journalist Reporter produces, reports, shoots, writes, voices, edits and feeds news production content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers. Reports news stories for broadcast, arranges interviews with people who can provide information about stories, and produces content for our website and social media channels daily.

Position Responsibilities

  • Produces and presents reports for WTAJ, WTAJ.com, and WTAJ+, as well as social media

  • Reports news quickly and accurately and ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality

  • Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions

  • Pitches stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community

  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

    Skill/Experience Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required

  • Superior on-air presence

  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere and Photoshop experience is a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
