SALARY RANGE - starting $48,000-$54,000

FUNCTION

Under supervision, works in the Allendale County Fire and Rescue. This includes

responding to fires and emergency medical situations to protect and save lives and protect

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Respond to fires and emergency medical situations; performs fire suppression and

firefighting duties; assess victim and condition and administers basic life support in

accordance with medical certification (i.e., ALS, BLS, First Responder, etc.)

Locates water supply, monitors hose/ nozzle, calculates friction loss and establishes

fire streams at fire site. Inspects, tests and operates assigned apparatus.

Participates in training exercises and continuing education classes to maintain

certification and improve knowledge and skills.

Extricate accident victims as needed.

Prepare daily logs and reports pertaining to incidents, supplies, repairs and

inspections. Completes state/ local paperwork, billings and reports. Present public

education and awareness programs regarding fire prevention to local schools, civic

and community groups.

Assists with yearly testing of equipment in accordance with NFPA guidelines.

Cross-trains in other disciplines.

Participate in overhaul and salvage. Preserve and protect evidence relating to fire

cause and point of origin.

Schedule will be a 48/96 schedule.

Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of fire suppression, fire behavior, rescue operations, emergency medical

Considerable knowledge of the apparatus and equipment associated with the fire

service.

Ability to prepare various forms, documents, etc. dealing with various aspects of the fire

department. Ability to use various software on a computer and the internet to file reports and

documents. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates

and the general public.

Ability to see possible problems and issues and respond effectively.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Basic Interior Firefighting certification through SC Fire Academy or higher

Emergency Vehicle Driver training certificate, Class E license, or higher

Basic Auto Extrication certification through SC Fire Academy

Current First Aid and CPR/ AED certifications

Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license

Clean D M V record

Must be able to undergo and pass a SLED background check

Pass a pre employment drug screen

Must have reliable transportation

Candidates will be required to reach FFI level certifications or higher within the

first year or as soon as a certification class is available.
