The North Polk Community School District is a progressive educational community located in the Des Moines metro area just north of Ankeny serving the communities of Alleman, Elkhart, Polk City, and Sheldahl. The District proudly serves over 2200 learners from preschool through 12th grade in five buildings (West Elementary, PK-2nd; Central Elementary, PK-5th, Big Creek Elementary, 3rd-5th; Middle School, 6th-8th; and High School, 9th-12th).

Job Title: Teacher on Special Assignment

Reports To: Building Principals

Supervises: Students

Evaluation: Performance to be evaluated annually by the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning and the Building Principals.

FLSA Status: X Exempt _ Non Exempt

Status: X Full Time _ Part Time

__ Hourly X Salary

Term: 2 year term, teaching contract (189 days) + 12 additional days per year

Stipend: $7,000 (amount includes travel expenses for movement between buildings)

Basic Function: Responsible for providing leadership, support, and expertise for the implementation of district-identified initiatives. Responsible for facilitating the learning and implementation of resources with teachers and students to ensure every student can reach grade-level standards.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Embeds current best practices into the work of coaching cycles and professional development.

  • Collaboratively works with teachers and administrators (i.e. co-planning, co-teaching, modeling, data analysis, reflection).

  • Partners with other building and district leaders to plan, lead, and deliver high-quality professional development around Iowa Framework, building goals, and curriculum resources.

  • Is an active member of building leadership teams.

  • Supports Collaborative Teams with curriculum resource implementation and data discussions.

  • Assists with the development and implementation of district-wide curriculum, resources, and assessments.

  • Supports initiatives and district expectations for instructional practice.

  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with others.

  • Completes district mandatory training as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Specifications/Qualifications:

  • Iowa teaching certification

  • Three years of successful teaching experience

  • Reading endorsement, preferred

  • Such alternatives to the above qualification as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

    Working Conditions:

  • Includes extremes of temperature and humidity

  • Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases

    Physical requirements: Work is performed while sitting or standing. Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
