SHRM Lead, Paid Media in Alexandria, Virginia

POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead, Paid Media is responsible for executing and overseeing the day-to-day management and optimization of paid media campaigns. Reporting to the VP of Lifecycle & Growth, this role balances hands-on campaign execution with team leadership to ensure campaigns are delivered on time, on budget, and to performance expectations.
The Lead serves as the primary representative of SHRM Paid Media, managing ongoing relationships with agency partners and internal marketing teams. This role upholds best practices, maintains agency accountability, and delivers performance insights consistently to drive measurable business outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Campaign Management & Execution
Execute and oversee paid media campaigns end-to-end across paid search, paid social, display, and programmatic channels.
Translate high-level paid media strategies into actionable plans for Specialists and agency partners.
Coordinate campaign launches with internal teams and external partners, ensuring seamless workflows and accountability.
Provide oversight of budget pacing, reallocations, and reporting to maintain efficiency and prevent overspend.
Agency & Partner Management
Serve as the primary point of contact (POC) for SHRM with paid media agencies and internal partners, fostering accountability and escalating issues or opportunities as needed.
Manage day-to-day relationships with multiple paid media partners, ensuring alignment on objectives, campaign execution, deliverables, and compliance with SHRM brand standards.
Analytics & Reporting
Monitor KPIs across all paid channels, providing timely updates and actionable recommendations to internal teams and leadership.
Ensure the team maintains reporting cadences and delivers clear, data-driven insights.
Leverage tools such as Monday.com, Customer Journey Analytics (CJA), and Datorama for workflow management, analysis, and reporting.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate cross-functionally with Growth Marketing, Content, SEO, and Analytics teams to integrate paid media into broader marketing efforts.
Partner with the VP, Lifecycle & Growth to align paid media priorities with organizational growth goals.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience in lieu of degree.
Experience
7+ years of progressive experience in paid media, including hands-on channel management and team or project leadership.
Demonstrated experience managing large-scale, multi-million-dollar paid media budgets across multiple channels.
Experience working with or managing paid media agency relationships preferred.
Certifications (Preferred)
Google Ads or Microsoft Advertising certification.
Meta Blueprint certification.
Adobe Experience Cloud / Adobe Advertising certifications are a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Technical Expertise
Advanced understanding of paid media strategy, planning, and optimization across paid search, paid social, display, and programmatic channels.
Strong knowledge of paid search and SEO best practices, including keyword strategy, content alignment, and landing page performance.
Proficiency in audience targeting strategy, segmentation, and performance tracking.
Familiarity with workflow and analytics platforms: Monday.com, Adobe Customer Journey Analytics (CJA), and Datorama.
Ability to effectively leverage AI tools and technologies to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and improve work quality.
Leadership & Communication
Proven ability to lead and develop a team while maintaining high standards of output and accountability.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for partner management, vendor coordination, and cross-functional collaboration.
Skilled at translating complex campaign data into clear, executive-ready insights and recommendations.
Analytical & Organizational
Strong analytical skills to connect campaign KPIs to business outcomes and translate data into strategic recommendations.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple campaigns and priorities simultaneously.
Adaptability to evolving market trends, platform changes, and organizational priorities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Hybrid Schedule
This position follows a hybrid schedule — Tuesday through Thursday in-office, Monday and Friday remote. Core business hours are 8:00–9:00 a.m. to 5:00–6:00 p.m. local time.
Travel
Occasional travel required (0–10%).
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
Frequent use of hands for typing, handling documents, and using office equipment.
Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds as needed.

The hiring range for this position is $100,000 to $118,000 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
