Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Heavy Equipment Operator capable of traveling throughout Minnesota, North and South Dakota. This position requires regular, consistent attendance and overtime work at various job sites. A valid Driver's License, preferably Class A, and an acceptable motor vehicle record are required. The ideal candidate will have previous heavy equipment operating experience, strong mechanical skills, and excellent communication abilities to work effectively as part of a team. Physical strength and endurance are essential for performing all principal duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and adjust work progress to ensure proper drainage, slopes, compaction, and tolerances.

  • Inspect work zones regularly for quality control, erosion control, and environmental compliance.

  • Maneuver the dozer safely and accurately to avoid damage to property, underground utilities, or other equipment.

  • Maintain clear and effective communication with the site supervisor, team members, and ground personnel using verbal and non-verbal hand signals.

  • Prioritize safety at all times, following company and industry safety guidelines and protocols.

  • Perform routine maintenance on the dozer, such as greasing, checking fluid levels, and cleaning the equipment.

  • Operate dozers, graders, blades, excavators, and other heavy equipment to perform tasks such as grading, leveling, excavating, and pushing materials.

  • Perform precise grading work to ensure the proper elevation and slope according to project specifications.

  • Perform other tasks as needed in construction and site construction.

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience in heavy equipment operation.

  • Strong mechanical skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to work as part of a team.

  • Physical strength and endurance.

  • Valid Driver's License, preferably Class A.

  • Acceptable motor vehicle record.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in road construction.

  • Ability to maneuver equipment safely.

  • Experience with construction, site construction, and foreman roles.

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly and perform physically demanding tasks.

  • Tolerance for long hours and extended periods of standing and walking on uneven terrain.

Work Environment

The work environment involves road construction in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Iowa. Employees must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, dust, and noise, while adhering to safety protocols. A casual dress code applies to accommodate the physical demands of the job.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alexandria, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
