Job Purpose:
The Sales Intern will support the commercial sales team by assisting with inside sales, customer service, pricing support, and sales operations activities. This role provides hands-on exposure to the rail industry and Progress Rail’s freight car and aftermarket product offerings while developing foundational skills in sales, customer engagement, and commercial operations.

Job Title:
Sales Intern (Freight Car Services)

Key Job Elements:
•Support inside sales and customer service activities across Freight Car Services and related business units
•Assist with preparing quotes, bids, and pricing support under the guidance of the sales team
•Coordinate with internal teams (sales, operations, accounting, and facilities) to support customer inquiries and order flow
•Help maintain customer price lists and sales data to reflect market conditions and material availability
•Enter and validate sales orders in internal systems and assist with basic reporting
•Support management of core customer accounts (e.g., wheelsets, parts, and materials) through data tracking and coordination
•Assist with resolving customer questions related to orders, invoicing, and delivery status
•Compile sales-related reports and assist with end-of-month summaries
•Conduct research on customers, markets, and prospects to support sales initiatives
•Participate in special projects and other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
•Strong written and verbal communication skills
•Interest in sales, customer service, and commercial operations
•Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
•Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
•Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Essential Physical Activities Functions:
Strength – Must be able to lift and carry up to 35lbs;
Motion – Constant walking; frequent and sustained bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, squatting, overhead reaching and climbing ladders;
Vision/Hearing Requirements – Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and hear audible alarms;
Metatarsal safety shoes are required as well as safety glasses.
