The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSPS) at the Research Foundation for the State University of New York ("SUNY") central office seeks a qualified candidate with a demonstrated commitment to strategic thinking, compliance, and collaboration to serve as Research Compliance Manager.

The Research Foundation for SUNY administers all of SUNY's sponsored programs. The State University of New York is the largest comprehensive system of higher education in the United States. Across the system, SUNY has four academic health centers, five hospitals, four medical schools, two dental schools, a law school, the country's oldest school of maritime, the state's only college of optometry, and manages one US Department of Energy National Laboratory.

As a member of the Office of Sponsored Programs, you will be joining a team of individuals who have the experience and the ambition to help SUNY research succeed. We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Research Compliance Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the security and compliance of research activities, particularly in relation to federal funding and international collaborations.

This position involves working independently on routine research security reviews with progressively more complex and/or varied problems. The Research Compliance Manager will report to the Vice President for Sponsored Programs and Regulatory Affairs and support the development and growth of a robust research security program in an emerging and important compliance area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keep current on regulatory requirements and organizational demands impacting research compliance standards; disseminate information as needed; lead workshops and seminars.

  • Coordinate with campus compliance counterparts to conduct reviews to ensure compliance with institutional and federal regulations, as outlined in Presidential Memorandum on United States Government-Supported Research and Development National Security Policy (NSPM-33) and the CHIPS and Science Act, including performing detailed risk analyses in response to federal sponsor requests.

  • For the comprehensive colleges, act as SME lead on export control compliance, OFAC and banned party screening, and creation of TCPs or data control plans for RF administered sponsored research.

  • Support system wide processes for the review of visiting scholar applications and assess potential security risks.

  • Collaborate with the Learning and Development Team at RF Central office on research security training compliance.

  • Serve as first line of support for research security inbox and electronic form inquiries, review requests, and phone calls.

  • As a member of the larger Compliance team, coordinate on related compliance areas as needed.

Experience in research security, compliance, or related areas.

Education, Experience and Required Certifications

Bachelor's Degree; 5+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted; Required Certifications; None.

A master's degree is preferred.

Additional Information:

Compensation for this position: The compensation for this role is between $88,515-$105,289 The pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, and certifications.
