Adams State Universi Residence Hall Director in Alamosa, Colorado

Adams State University is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Residence Hall Director to join our Housing & Residence Life team. This live-in professional plays a vital role in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging residential experience for 150--350 students.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Leadership & Supervision

  • Select, train, mentor, and evaluate a team of Resident Assistants (RAs)
  • Lead weekly staff meetings and one-on-one check-ins
  • Support RA development through training and ongoing feedback

Community Development

  • Oversee programming aligned with the Community Development Plan
  • Foster inclusive, respectful, and academically supportive environments
  • Build strong relationships with residents and promote student leadership

Student Conduct & Support

  • Adjudicate conduct cases and provide developmental support
  • Refer students to campus and community resources
  • Promote accountability and personal growth

Crisis Response & On-Call Duties

  • Participate in on-call rotation for emergency response
  • Maintain duty schedules and ensure RA coverage
  • Collaborate with campus safety and emergency personnel

Administrative & Operational Duties

  • Manage room changes, check-ins/outs, and building operations
  • Track maintenance issues and coordinate with facilities staff
  • Maintain accurate records and submit timely reports

Professional Development & Collaboration

  • Serve on departmental committees
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning
  • Collaborate with campus partners and parents
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 2 years of experience in Residence Life or Student Affairs
  • Experience living in campus housing
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of student development theory
  • Experience supporting underrepresented student populations
  • Programming experience for diverse communities
