The Subject Matter Expert (SME) will provide advanced technical leadership for a major hospitality development in AlUla, with a focus on geotechnical engineering, tunneling works, and associated civil structures. This role anchors the project’s subsurface strategy, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost effective design and execution across complex geological conditions. The SME will guide multidisciplinary teams, advise on risk mitigation, and ensure alignment with regional regulatory frameworks and international best practices.
Lead all geotechnical and tunneling technical activities across project phases, from early investigations to construction oversight.
Review, validate, and optimize geotechnical designs, ground models, excavation methodologies, and support systems.
Provide expert guidance on M.E. (Mechanical & Electrical) and CS (Civil/Structural) interfaces related to underground works.
Oversee geotechnical risk assessments, including slope stability, settlement, groundwater behavior, and seismic considerations.
Direct and interpret site investigations, laboratory testing programs, and geotechnical instrumentation strategies.
Advise on tunneling methods, excavation sequencing, temporary/permanent support, and constructability constraints.
Ensure compliance with Saudi building codes, environmental requirements, and AlUla-specific heritage and conservation guidelines.
Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and authorities to resolve technical challenges and maintain project continuity.
Prepare and deliver high level technical reports, design reviews, and expert recommendations for senior stakeholders.
Mentor project teams and contribute to capability building in geotechnical and tunneling disciplines.
Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum 20 years of experience in geotechnical engineering with a strong focus on tunneling and underground works.
Proven track record delivering large scale infrastructure or hospitality projects in complex geological environments.
Demonstrated experience with M.E. and CS interfaces in subsurface and tunnel projects.
Strong background in geotechnical investigation, numerical modeling, ground improvement, and excavation support systems.
Experience working in the Middle East, ideally within Saudi Arabia or similar arid, heritage sensitive environments.
Membership in a recognized engineering institution (e.g., ICE, ASCE, or equivalent) is an advantage.
Strong reporting, review, and technical advisory capabilities.
