About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

The Program Manager is responsible for developing and executing substation asset management strategies that enhance the lifecycle performance and reliability of FirstEnergy’s transmission and distribution systems. This role also devises equipment spare strategies to support grid reliability, mitigate operational and financial risks, and ensure alignment with industry best practices and technical specifications.

This is a full-time, on-site position located in Akron, OH.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop new or manage existing asset management programs for transmission and distribution assets, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Develop and maintain substation asset management and lifecycle planning.

  • Develop and maintain system spare strategies for major assets by analyzing operational and historical data, asset health, and system topology, including applying optimization techniques to recommend optimal system sparing requirements.

  • Collaborate with engineering, substation services, and regional operations for efficient inventory management and asset lifecycle planning.

  • Provide program status (scope, budget and schedule progress) and identification of issues requiring management involvement for resolution

  • Prepare and present reports on asset status, inventories, and lifecycle planning to leadership, translating technical findings into actionable recommendations.

  • Actively participate and collaborate with industry groups such as EPRI and NATF to identify, evaluate, and implement improvements in processes and methodologies through research, benchmarking, and shared project initiatives.

  • Maintain collaborative relationships across functions and find opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Support Asset Management and Operational Excellence business plan and initiatives as required.

  • Support the Emergency Plan by participating in assigned storm duties, including hazard response and dispatch activities.

Qualifications at the Program Manager II level include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, analytics, or a related technical or quantitative field, supporting data‑driven analysis, reliability‑based decision making, and asset lifecycle management.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in engineering, analytics, program/project management or leading initiatives related to asset management, or operational improvement.

  • Demonstrated ability to create robust reports and perform in-depth data analysis to deliver actionable insights, enabling informed, data-driven operational decisions.

  • Ability to clearly explain complex technical information to individuals with varying levels of technical knowledge.

  • Demonstrated project management expertise, including the ability to develop comprehensive project plans, manage timelines, coordinate resources, and ensure successful execution from initiation through completion.

  • Familiarity with primary substation assets such as power transformers, circuit breakers, and disconnect switches, including their operating principles and technical specifications is preferred.

  • Experience utilizing asset management software tools (such as Cascade, Maximo, or SAP), Data analytics tools ( such as PowerBI, QlikView, or Tableau) or database programming languages ( such as SQL, Python, R) is preferred.

Qualifications at the Program Manager III level include all above plus:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in engineering, analytics, program/project management or leading initiatives related to asset management, or operational improvement.

  • Program Manager III level will be expected to perform all of the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner.

Qualifications at the Program Manager IV level include all above plus:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in engineering, analytics, program/project management or leading initiatives related to asset management, or operational improvement.

  • An employee hired at the Program Manager IV level will be expected to perform all of the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the Program Manager IV level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those listed above.

FirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.

The estimated pay range for this role is $68,425- $139,800.
