Job Title: Aircraft Mechanic – Q400 Heavy Maintenance & Conversion
Job Description
This long-term, full-time contract role focuses on Q400 heavy maintenance and aircraft conversion to aerial firefighting configuration. You’ll perform mechanical maintenance and inspections on Dash 8 and other regional turboprop aircraft in a collaborative, year-round environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform heavy and line maintenance on Q400, Dash 8, and regional turboprop aircraft
Support Q400 aerial firefighting conversion programs
Complete mechanical tasks including engine checks, wheel/brake changes, structural inspections, and repairs
Troubleshoot mechanical systems and basic electrical/avionics issues
Sign off work within scope using M2 license and Q400 endorsement
Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and follow safety, quality, and human factors standards
Work independently and collaboratively with structures, avionics, and maintenance teams
Support multiple facilities and projects as required; occasional Saturday overtime
Required Qualifications
Valid AME M2 license (held for a minimum of 3 years)
2+ years heavy maintenance experience on regional or transport aircraft
Q400 endorsement with hands-on Dash 8 Q400 experience
Current Human Factors certification (2024 or newer)
Ability to read and interpret aircraft maintenance manuals and technical drawings
Compensation & Allowances (Incorporated Contractor)
Hourly Rate: $53.80/hr
AME S licensed with ACA: up to $58.00/hr
Daily Rate: $75 per day worked
Living Out Allowance (LOA): $2,000/month
Equivalent to $461.53/week
Travel Reimbursement (Flying): Up to $720 one-way
Driving Mileage: Up to 1,000 km at CRA rate ($0.72/km)
Travel Allowance Hours (to BC):
Up to 10 hours at start and end of contract (20 hours total), paid at contractor rate
Tools: Required by contractor
Payroll: Weekly pay (Sunday–Saturday payroll cycle)
Work Environment
Busy hangar environment supporting Q400 and Dash 8 aircraft, working alongside multidisciplinary maintenance teams. Exposure to heavy maintenance, conversions, repairs, and limited avionics-related tasks.
